Week 6: Divine Beast Vah Rudania
Just a heads up, this post is the last of the game progress updates as my next and final post will be a recap of my entire experience as a whole instead of focusing on progressing through the game. Now then let's see how close I am to beating the game...
In my last post I mentioned that I wanted to complete divine beast Vah Medoh (the bird one) next since the ability it granted was very helpful for use in other parts of the game and the dungeon and bossfight were fairly straightforward. On my way towards Vah Medoh, which is in the far northwestern section of the island, I passed through Goron City where the Gorons of Death Mountain and Vah Rudania live. I completed the nearby shrine so that I could fast travel back when I wanted. I then made the very important decision to stay in Goron City and begin the Divine Beast Vah Rudania quest line. I figured that it would take me a very long time to reach Vah Medoh as I hadn't explored any of that part of the map, and I wanted to make sure I finished another Divine Beast before I ran out of time to blog about it.
With my mind set on finishing Divine Beast Vah Rudania I began completing the introductory quests which involved rescuing a friendly Goron, Yunobo, who will help me climb Death Mountain. After the short quests were done it was time to begin climbing Death Mountain. Climbing death mountain involves guiding Yunobo up the mountain with you so that you can launch him at the beast several times, eventually knocking it into a position where you are then able to reach the beast yourself. The launching isn't too difficult and the enemies you face aren't that bad, but what is quite difficult is getting Yunobo to avoid the flying Guardian Skywatchers overhead that signal Vah Rudania to hurl magma bombs at you and Yunobo, killing you instantly most of the time. To get Yunobo to move correctly you must signal him to stop or follow you with whistles, but he can't react very fast and is a very large character so he will often run ahead into danger if you don't whistle quickly enough or sometimes stick out from cover that you are able to fit underneath easily. Yunobo's following system is clunky and kind of annoying in my opinion, but luckily there's not really anything else like this in the game and you only have to do it once.
