Week 7: Final Post and Recap

Image
This will be the final post in my Breath of the Wild Master Mode series and I will be using it to recap my experience playing the game over the past couple months as well as give recommendations for people who may want to try Master Mode or just Breath of the Wild in general.  The first experience I had playing Breath of the Wild Master Mode was shortly after my first blog post explaining what I would be doing. The first few hours of content were probably the most difficult I encountered during the entire time I spent playing. At the very beginning of the game you have no armor or health and the weapons you get are not strong enough to reasonably take on more than one enemy at once. This presents several challenges as the leveled up Master Mode enemies are able to kill you in one hit and often appear in groups. In addition to the challenge that the upgraded enemies pose, there are also more enemy spawn locations including several which elevate the enemies into the sky using b...

Week 6: Divine Beast Vah Rudania

Image
Just a heads up, this post is the last of the game progress updates as my next and final post will be a recap of my entire experience as a whole instead of focusing on progressing through the game. Now then let's see how close I am to beating the game... In my last post I mentioned that I wanted to complete divine beast Vah Medoh (the bird one) next since the ability it granted was very helpful for use in other parts of the game and the dungeon and bossfight were fairly straightforward. On my way towards Vah Medoh, which is in the far northwestern section of the island, I passed through Goron City where the Gorons of Death Mountain and Vah Rudania live. I completed the nearby shrine so that I could fast travel back when I wanted. I then made the very important decision to stay in Goron City and begin the Divine Beast Vah Rudania quest line. I figured that it would take me a very long time to reach Vah Medoh as I hadn't explored any of that part of the map, and I wanted to make ...

Week 5: Goals for Next Week

Image
Unfortunately, this week I was not able to make any progress in my BoTW master mode playthrough, but I still have some goals that I would like to set for myself for Week 6. If I have any hope of actually completing the game I need to get through the 3 remaining divine beasts in the next two weeks so that the final boss fight becomes a bit easier and I will have access to the abilities completing each beast grants you. I will likely start with the divine beast Vah Medoh as it is not a very difficult beast and its updraft ability that can be used to glide across the map is extremely useful for travelling long distances and completing the other beasts.  Divine Beast Vah Medoh The remaining two divine beasts after I have completed Vah Medoh are divine beast Vah Rudania and divine beast Vah Naboris. To be honest, I am not very fond of either Vah Rudania or Vah Naboris as they both require a pretty complicated quest to be completed before you can even begin the dungeon and Thunderblight ...

Week 4: Divine Beast Vah Ruta

Image
This most recent week was easily my most productive so far. I travelled all the way from the Great Plateau to Kakariko Village, where I received the Main Story quest from Impa, and then Zora's Domain where I would begin the quest to conquer my first divine beast, Vah Ruta. Along the way I completed a couple more shrines, climbed two Sheikah Towers, allowing me to see more of the map, and unlocked a couple more weapon slots using some of the Korok Seeds I had found. Map of my travels starting at the Great Plateau, passing through Kakariko Village (yellow) and ending at Zora's Domain (green). Last post I mentioned how much I enjoyed travelling through the area between Kakariko Village and Zora's Domain, but while I did try to take in the surroundings, I mainly sprinted through the area in front of Zora's Domain as quickly as possible. I was not sufficiently prepared to fight the Master Mode enemies and they could all kill me in one hit so I wasted no time running past th...

Week 3: Unfortunate Lack of Progress

Image
I was planning on catching up and actually getting off the plateau this week, but instead I made pretty much no progress and well, here we are. Instead of sharing what I did this week, I will share what I hope to accomplish over the next week!  My immediate goal is to get off the plateau and begin working towards beating the game, meaning I should probably make progress towards one of the four divine beasts since I don't trust myself to beat the final boss without their help. I will likely rush as quickly as possible towards the divine beast Vah Ruta in the Lanayru region of the map as I find it to be one of the simplest to beat and has a great bonus of reviving you upon death which I will definitely need against the more difficult master mode enemies. Divine Beast Vah Ruta The Lanayru region is one of my favorites in the game and is always quite fun to traverse. Towering rocks and ice pillars surround a violent river that flows to the center of the island and the constant rain add...

Breath of the Wild Master Mode: Week 2

Image
In the first week I did not make much progress. This is partially due to me testing the waters as far as difficulty and not being prepared for how challenging master mode was, but it was primarily because I didn't actually play as much as I had planned. For anyone who hasn't played Breath of the Wild before, the first part of the game, called The Great Plateau, is basically a tutorial where you are taught basic skills you will need throughout the rest of the game without being in any significant danger. After completing the first four quests you are rewarded with a Paraglider, allowing you to leave the plateau which, up until this point, would result in a death from fall damage if you tried to leave. Casually, this part of the game takes around 20 minutes, mostly running across the plateau to reach the objectives you need to complete to receive the Paraglider. At the time of writing this blog I have completed three of the four main objectives required to leave. The Great Platea...

Breath of the Wild: Master Mode - My 7 Week Journey: Week 1

Image
How's it going guys, welcome to my blog! Throughout the next 7 weeks I will be trying to beat Breath of the Wild: Master Mode for the first time. Breath of the Wild is one of my favorite games of all time and I've completed it a few times, but Master Mode will present an entirely new challenge. In addition, I will be attempting  to complete the entire game while only playing 3 hours per week to make sure I don't try to beat it all at once the weekend after College Apps are due, but given my progress, I may have to increase this amount. I look forward to updating you guys on my progress throughout the next 7 weeks!
